It is a big week of club football. The headline match is Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 14 October, the second matchday of the 2026-27 Champions League league phase. City's official site lists a 20:00 UK kick-off. PSG have won the competition two seasons in a row, beating Inter in 2025 and Arsenal in 2026. They arrive after a 3-1 win over Le Mans in Ligue 1, while City come off a 3-0 win at Liverpool.

Champions League, matchday 2 (13 and 14 October)

  • Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain (Etihad Stadium, 14 October)
  • Roma v Real Madrid
  • Lens v Sporting CP

The league phase began on 8 September and runs to 27 January 2027. Thirty-six teams are competing for 24 places in the knockout phase. Matchday 3 follows on 20 and 21 October.

Premier League, matchweek 7

Saturday 17 October: Everton v Chelsea, Brentford v Liverpool, Fulham v Hull City, Manchester City v Ipswich Town and Newcastle United v Aston Villa. Sunday 18 October: Bournemouth v Sunderland, Brighton v Crystal Palace, Leeds United v Manchester United and Nottingham Forest v Arsenal.

After six games Manchester City lead the table with 18 points, three ahead of Arsenal on 15. Brighton are third on 13. The schedule is as published by the league and broadcasters; kick-off times can change.

In context: Arsenal are the reigning champions, so the trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday is an early test of whether they can stay with City.
