Overview
The Copa America is the national-team championship of South America, first played in 1916. Argentina won the 2024 edition in the United States, beating Colombia 1-0 after extra time, for a record 16th title.
Argentina and Uruguay have long been the leading nations, with Argentina on a record 16 titles and Uruguay on 15. Brazil have won it many times too, most recently in 2019.
Since 1993 the tournament has often invited guest teams from CONCACAF and Asia. Chile won back-to-back titles in 2015 and the special 2016 Centenario edition in the United States. Argentina won in 2021 (beating Brazil in the final in Rio) and 2024.
How it works
